Who Are We & What Do We Do?

Blackburn with Darwen Food Alliance came into being in 2018 and its early development was supported initially through funding from Blackburn with Darwen Public Health.

The work in the early years of the Food Alliance’s development was undertaken within the remit of people’s existing roles. It was during this period that the Food Alliance applied for and was awarded membership of the national Sustainable Food Places Network.

In 2021 funding was allocated via Public Health to, for the first time, employ a part-time co-ordinator to drive forward the work of the Food Alliance, establish it as an independent voluntary organisation, help to grow the membership and develop its workstreams.

In December 2022 we were awarded status as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and have over 90 member organisations from across all sectors of the borough.

Each year we work with our members, working groups and funders to develop our 12 month action plan. You can find our action plan for 2023/2024 below (PDF 171KB)
